Gothic Chic Destination Scottish Castle Winter Wedding

Destination wedding planning at cornhill castle - Jamie and Andrew

Third time lucky.

Yes, I know, I know. That’s such a cliche. But like all cliches, it does ring true. After two postponements (thanks to a certain worldwide pandemic), November 2022 rolled around and it was finally time for Jamie and Andrew’s amazing, gothic Scottish castle wedding. And oh boy, it was more than worth the wait!

This international couple - Jamie is American and Andrew hails from the UK - met whilst studying at Stirling University. There was a large USA contingent coming over for the wedding and, with that in mind, they were both keen to show off Scotland to the full. I was thrilled that they chose me to be their destination wedding planner here in Scotland!

Regular readers, and anyone who knows me, will be well aware of my unashamed and unapologetic adoration for my country as the perfect location for weddings and elopements. I will take each and every opportunity to wax lyrical about the delights of Scotland so, as you can imagine, I was over the moon with that brief and to be helping another couple who had chosen Scotland for their destination wedding.

Jamie and Andrew first reached out to me in late 2018. They’d booked their venue - Cornhill Castle - and their photographer (the fab Pedro Souza) but wanted help to pull all the other elements together. It was so important to them that the wedding reflected them as a couple and their tastes. Together we landed on a “gothic chic” theme. Rather fitting as Jamie’s nickname is Princess and Andy’s striking resemblance to Ragnar from the TV series ‘Vikings’ means he is known as, you guessed it, Viking!

The theme was evident in the colours we chose. Think deep, rich burgundys, greens and black with gold running throughout. Cornhill Castle was the ideal location too. The castle, which has stood on that spot since 1856, is a real hidden gem, tucked away in the countryside with views out over the Lanarkshire landscape. Jamie and Andrew chose the perfect place to show off the beauty of Scotland to their family and friends!

Gothic Chic wedding theme

I helped Jamie and Andrew pull together an ace team of suppliers to bring their ideas to life. As you can see from Pedro’s incredible images the day looked absolutely spectacular. Romantic, stunning and, well, very gothic chic! Be sure to take a look at Jamie and Andrew’s wedding film from Cinemate too, they are masters of capturing Scottish weddings in all their beautiful, moody and dramatic glory!

Julie from A Curious Arrangement did an amazing job with the flowers, although that’s never in doubt with Julie. Just look at the ceremony backdrop she created,  that gorgeous, unique A-frame arch covered in flowers. Julie along with me and help on the day from the team at Cornhill Castle, put together some incredible table styling with linens provided by 88 Events. We loved those glorious deep rich colours which created a romantic and dramatic vibe.

As Jamie and Andrew were already legally married they didn’t need an official celebrant, instead a good friend led their ceremony. It was heartfelt and emotional with a lot of humour. Just as all wedding ceremonies should be!

And, of course, we went all out on the Scottish wedding traditions. From many guests wearing kilts right through to a piper and the evening ceilidh, provided by the incredible Kilter Ceilidh Band. We fully embraced the authentic Scottish experience and it went down an absolute storm with everyone.

Jamie, Andrew - otherwise known as the Princess and her Viking - we got there! Finally! Not only was it worth the wait but it was the greatest day celebrating your love and all things you!
