Elegant Wedding at Boturich Castle with DIY Detail

Canadian Em met Mich when she came to study in Scotland. Little did she expect the destiny that befell them. The couple fell in love and soon after, they packed their bags and headed back to Em’s home in Canada to do life together. It’s little surprise that Scotland would be the location for their wedding. It held precious memories for them both and will forever be close to their hearts.

Choosing a venue that could cater for their numbers as well as giving their international guest list a truly Scottish experience, was a key part of their wedding planning process. They chose the staggeringly beautiful Boturich Castle. What an exceptional choice! I love it there too and was elated to get on board as their Scottish wedding planner. Boturich Castle is an incredible venue, nestled on the banks of the iconic Loch Lomond and surrounded by 140 acres of woodland.

As Boturich Castle is such a versatile location, Em + Mich were able to put their own stamp on it. Travelling is a shared passion so they incorporated lots of fantastic DIY elements into their day to reflect this joint love. The pair invested a tremendous amount of effort into creating beautiful details, ensuring they created a day that was reflective of them. One of my favourite touches was the personalised picture collages of their travels around the world. I thought this was perfect because seeing the world together is a huge part of what defines their relationship. I love it when couples invest their energy into creating detail like this - it’s the essence of a personalised wedding day.

We lucked out with the weather! The sun shone down on us all day. However, I suspect Em + Mich would have beamed regardless of what the weather chose to do. This is a couple who adore each other and are deeply family-focused. Being able to share their love with their family and closest friends was everything to them.

As a well-versed Scottish wedding planner, there’s little that surprises me. Mich surprised me! He knew Em was the woman for him when she green-lit a long-standing dream of his: to have the Birdie song as his first dance at his wedding. In true matrimonial fashion, they reached a compromise. They started their first dance with a more romantic song before the DJ cut in with the Birdie song. It certainly was a crowd pleaser and got the dance floor filled early doors.

Enjoy!
