Why You Should Consider a Mid-Week Wedding

Mid-week weddings are increasingly more common. Couples love the higher levels of flexibility a Sunday to Thursday wedding gives them over the more traditional Friday and Saturday. Not only can you save a bunch of money, mid-week wedding means more choice for you and your guests. I’ve even included a spectacular case study to back up why you ought to seriously consider a mid-week wedding.

Whilst most couples opt for a Saturday wedding, an increasing number of folks are embracing the multitude of benefits accompanying the mid-week wedding. Having your wedding on a Sunday, Thursday or even Monday isn’t as weird as it used to be; particularly in a post-Covid19 world. Once you’re married, you’re unlikely to look back on your wedding day and reminisce about it being on a particular day of the week. Rather, you’ll look back and recall that it was your wedding day. You’ll look back and remember the joy you felt. You’ll replay those moments of incredible happiness at celebrating your love with your closest friends and family... not the fact it was on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Let me share my top 5 reasons for definitely considering a mid-week wedding. Keep reading beyond my reasons because there’s a case study of a brilliant Thursday in July wedding I planned.

Mid-Week Venue Discount

The biggest chunk of your wedding budget will likely be spent on your venue. You’ll find most Scottish venues will have mid-week and weekend rates. For some, the savings in peak summer can be significant. This can benefit you in a number of ways. Firstly, you might find there’s a venue you’d love but it’s out of budget...at the weekend! Secondly, saving a significant amount here will allow you to book that phenomenal photographer or incredibly florist you’ve been Insta stalking for months now. Alternatively, you hold the saving back. I’m sure you’ll agree all three are wins.

Supplier Availability

‘Tis a true fact that the most sought-after suppliers can be snapped up 2 (in some cases, 3) years in advance. Some suppliers limit the number of weddings they commit to so as to ensure they’re able to give their couples the best service possible and not overstretching themselves. You’ll find it surprising how much date flexibility in-demand suppliers have for mid-week weddings.

Your Guests Save Money

I find most of the couples I work with have a broad compass of friends. Usually, guests of my couples travel from far and wide to celebrate their wedding day. Mid-week weddings give your guests a wider range of accommodation options to choose from as well as mid-week rates.

People Love Taking Time Off Work

Regardless of the day you choose to get married, a midweek wedding automatically turns one part of the week into a long weekend! Your friends and family will undoubtedly be delighted to celebrate your marriage, however, a midweek wedding has the added bonus of a day off of work. You’re giving them reason 312 to love you even more!

Can Organise it More Quickly

Of course, a wedding for 200 people will require the same level of planning regardless of when you choose to hold it. What I mean by this is, if you decide you’d like a July wedding, being open to a midweek date instantly opens up the number of venues and suppliers to choose from for a peak wedding month. Perhaps there’s a venue and caterer you have your heart set on for mid-July. If you ask them for a Saturday date three months prior, you’ll probably be disappointed. Now, ask them again but with a mid-week option, I suspect you’ll be a whole lot happier with their response.

Case Study: International Edinburgh Mid-July Wedding

Eric and Laura booked me 10 weeks ahead of their July wedding. The only thing they had in place was their venue - the incredible Mansfield Traquair. Let me digress for a moment. Mansfield Traquair...also known as Edinburgh’s ‘Sistine Chapel’. Located in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, its historic architecture and artwork really have to be seen to be believed. It’s a breath-taking and super versatile space. So. Eric and Laura had their venue sorted but nothing else was in place. With 10 weeks left, that’s a lot of organising. Now, backtrack to the beginning of the year - Laura and Eric moved to Edinburgh. By the time they decided to plan their wedding, the city was still new to them and so they weren’t yet familiar with local suppliers. As their wedding planner, their mid-week date meant the couple could book their preferred choice suppliers. Indeed, every supplier I reached out to had their date available. There’s no way we could have secured the heavyweights of Harper Scott Photo, Planet Flowers and stationer Viollaz had their wedding been on a Saturday in mid-July with a mere 10 week lead time! We pulled together a spectacular wedding. Their guest list was made up exclusively of Laura’s Spanish family and friends and Eric’s American family and friends. Their entire guest list traveled internationally to celebrate the couple’s wedding. The vast majority of folks on their invite list were able to attend. In fact, with it being on a Thursday, folks were able to get great deals on city centre hotels in spite of it being peak summer. We had an absolute blast!
